Other Scottish Country Dances for this Day

Today's Musings, History & Folklore

Time travelers, get ready to dance your way back to the era of your choosing by visiting or participating in one of the many autumn fairs, historical reenactments, special events, living history locales, or masquerade balls that come alive during the splendid autumn season —before the cold sets in! Among the delights awaiting fair-goers is the opportunity to witness period dance forms, including the lively steps of Scottish Country dancing. Many Scottish Country Dance groups annually grace these fairs, dressed in an array of period-inspired attire. Perhaps a masked ball is in your future, where you can further disguise, divert, desport, and transport yourself into the past! This reel includes joyful figures (which may or may not be easy in full costume!) such as reels, setting, petronella turns, and two-handed turns, with the final flourish of the lady passing under two hands to gracefully turn into place. So whether you're inclined to travel back in disguise to the dance halls of medieval, Renaissance, Regency times, or under the greenwood tree, remember to mind those petticoats, small weaponry, and, of course, your masks, dancers! 👑 ⚔️ 🤺 🏰

"Beneath the banners bright and high,
In sunlit fields where echoes fly,
The music calls, the drums resound,
And dancers whirl upon the ground."

~ The Dance of the Faire
