"At Twelve Coates Crescent, a feline appeared,
A whiskered guest whom none had feared.
Through polished halls, it strolled with grace,
A furry diplomat in the dancers' space."
Spending the Christmas Holidays visiting or dancing with old friends? This dance was designed for a friend of the feline kind, Biscuit, a ginger cat that regularly visited 12 Coates Crescent in Edinburgh, headquarters of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, when the weather was bad. Follow Biscuit's trek to headquarters and back to his feline haunts with this happy jig with a sleek down the middle and back with a turn of the lady under the arm of her partner! And keep watch for all our animal friends, both furry and feathered, as well as our dancing ones, during these wintry days! Meow and Set! ๐งก ๐ค ๐ค ๐ฆ ๐บ ๐ ๐บ ๐
Biscuit's Visit
Although the whereabouts of Biscuit are not currently known by this editor, Biscuit may have well exhibited typical ginger cat personality traits:
Affectionate and Friendly:
Ginger cats are often described as people-oriented and loving. They tend to enjoy human companionship and are often more sociable than other cats.
Playful and Energetic:
Many ginger cats are playful and full of energy, making them great companions for households with children or other pets.
Laid-back Nature:
They are frequently noted for their relaxed, easygoing demeanor, often enjoying lounging around as much as they enjoy playtime.
Talkative:
Ginger cats can be quite vocal, using their meows, chirps, and purrs to communicate with their humans.
In Egyptian culture, all cats, including ginger cats, were highly revered as protectors of the home and symbols of grace. Their vibrant color was often associated with the sun, vitality, and strength. In Celtic lore, ginger cats were considered good luck and protectors against evil spirits. And in Scottish folklore, cats of all colors were believed to bring blessings to homes where they were treated well. Historically, ginger cats were considered excellent mousers and were valued companions for farmers and sailors who relied on them to control rodent populations.
Ginger cats are almost always tabbies due to their genetic makeup. About 80% of ginger cats are male, making the females less common.
