Other Scottish Country Dances for this Day

Today's Musings, History & Folklore

The countdown continues to Burns Night this Jan 25th!

We've had the WELCOME dances, now let's move on to most anticipated part of the evening - THE HAGGIS dances!

Planning a Burns Supper Dance? Enjoy a Virtual Burns Night in Scottish Country Dance form and move through a traditional evening with vintage images and Scottish Country Dances for every aspect! Or augment your own Burns Night by choosing a dance from our Burns Night selections.

"Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o' the puddin'-race!
Aboon them a' ye tak yer place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o' a grace As lang's my airm."

~ Robert Burns, Address to a Haggis, 1786

The Haggis has been piped in, presented and much admired. Continue your evening with dances of the savoury sort - The Haggis Hunters, Haggis on the Window, The Haggis Thrash, The Haggis Tree, and more offal dances!

Check out our Haggis Dance Menu, hunt for lurking haggis in a simple cursor game (computer version only), or if you've managed to bag a missing haggis dance description, please share!

Shown: The Haggis Feast, Alexander Fraser (1786-1860) . This painting depicts the poet Robert Burns with his wife and four of their children gathered around a table upon which a Haggis is prominently placed. With the Burns family at the table are their friends Douglas Graham seated opposite, Gavin Hamilton, owner of Mossgeil Farm, seated on the right and Mr & Mrs Cunningham.

Gie her a haggis!!
